Blue Bird House Update

Thank you to members John Hardy and Becky Odinga for their financial support purchasing new blue bird houses in 2019.  We removed our decaying old houses, moved and added some new poles and were ready for the 2020 season last year.

I had learned in the past to have the houses facing west for additional evening heat but after further research by Becky in 2021, we are rotating them to face the east for 2022 to get more morning heat into the boxes.

Here is the annual report John and Becky compiled for 2021 that I wanted to share with you.

Annual Bird House inspection/cleanout on 9-19-21
Same numbering system 1-10, several birdhouses were empty and had not been used, my research says bluebirds prefer to use birdhouses that face east. All of ours face west, or place them in shady areas where they will not bake in the sun. We have one in the yard facing west but in the shade for the majority of the day, chickadees produced 3 broods in it.

1. Near the first tee, had been nested by a chickadee.
2. Along the second hole had a partial nest which may not have been finished, probably swallow.
3. Right of #3 hole had not been used.
4. Right of #3 closer to green chickadee nest and currently had to evict a small mouse.
5. Right of #5 hole, chickadee nest with older unhatched eggs.
6. Right of # hole empty.
7. Near the #8 tee, chickadee nest LOOSE AT POLE.
8. Closest to 17 fairway in field -empty.
9. Further in field toward #15 hole chickadee nest.
10. Closer in field toward #15 green chickadee nest.

Thank you John and Becky!
